“A Day Worth Remembering!”
I am in my office and it is Sunday, late afternoon. I am reflecting on the day we shared today at church. All the families, the flowers, the mom’s, those baby bottles, the handbells, just being in community together and worshipping with you. I am truly blessed beyond what I can describe or in what gratitude I sense at being the pastor of such a church! I, quite frankly, am just overwhelmed sitting here in front of this screen typing these words. I am one of the lucky ones! I truly know the truth of what Jesus says in John 10:10, “I have come that they might have life and have it abundantly.” I live a life that is full of such abundance. As I realize the truth of that in this moment I can’t find the words to express to my Lord what it means to have him love me so very much and for that love to find such powerful expression by allowing to serve a congregation like you! What I realize as your pastor is that I am in love with you all! I know that may sound strange to say, but it is true nevertheless. There, I finally said it.
Today, so many of you, as you departed, were just so present with me and you represented to me God’s love as you exited with your hugs, your handshakes, your words. I am at a loss at such an experience. However, what I know is that somehow, mysteriously God is in it all. I do know that! I am not sure why I came to that realization today but I did as I sat down to write my blog for the week. Maybe some of the explanation has to do with Mother’s Day, I don’t know. I also know that I don’t have to know. I just know that God’s love is present in you and in this wonderful community of faith we all share together day in and day out, week in and week out. We don’t tell people often enough how we feel about them. Well, I am telling you all today that I love you and thank you for loving me!
I am so blessed to be your pastor! Thank you for allowing me to labor in the vineyard with you all! I love what God is doing among us here! It is so alive, so fresh, so powerful, so humbling! Happy Mother’s Day to all you mom’s! It has been one of those unforgettable days, hasn’t it? I will take all of these I can get! What a God we serve who continues to trust us with so much! It has been a day I will always remember!
I will see you on the road,
Travis
